Internal auditors urged to be more professional

KUCHING: Internal auditors need to be more professional than ever and continually upgrade their skills and qualifications, Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said.

More Professional? What is that supposed to mean?

He said they needed to keep pace with changes in the corporate world as companies get bigger and expectations are higher.

"Internal auditors must be very professional. It is not enough to be good; you must be excellent.

Ok, now he's complaining about the internal auditor is too weak to work together with the accounting guys to produce unbreakable "perfect" account, which may be fradulent in fact :p

"Business is getting more complicated and sometimes there's a conflict within a firm, between the power of the board of directors and the desire of auditors to be independent," he told reporters Tuesday after opening the 2008 East Malaysia conference on internal auditing here.

Geez, why do people keep repeating craps? Do something please.

The two-day conference, themed "Governance Excellence: Leading with Integrity", was organised by the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (IIA) Sarawak District Society.

In his speech earlier, Taib said the role of internal auditors was becoming more important in ensuring that companies are run in a transparent and accountable manner.

As such, he said they should continue to upgrade their skills and obtain the necessary certifications to enable them to do their jobs effectively.

He also called on corporate leaders to enhance integrity in their workplaces, saying it was the most important attitude to have in running a company.

"For example, corporate leaders need to ensure that company accounts are well kept and properly scrutinised," he said.

Conclusion? Nothing at all.
